New Delhi:
Having borne much of the brunt of Aam Aadmi Party's agitational politics, the BJP has now decided to hit back in the same coin. Leaders of the party's Delhi unit will take part in a dharna at Jantar Mantar today to expose the Arvind Kejriwal government and its unfulfilled promises.
Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj was initially expected to lead the sit-in protest, but opted out in view of the debate on the Telangana bill, which was expected to commence in the Lok Sabha at 2.30 pm.
Mr Kejriwal's AAP government resigned on Friday after the BJP and the Congress joined hands in the Delhi assembly to block the introduction of Jan Lokpal Bill. With no alternative political formation likely to stake its claim to form the next government, Delhi is likely to face a fresh round of assembly polls soon.
With the Congress struggling to retain its identity in the capital, political observers predict a straight fight between the start-up party and the BJP for the Lok Sabha polls, due by May, and the assembly polls that are likely to be held soon after.
Taking a leaf out of the AAP's brand of politics, the BJP has decided to take to the streets to mobilise public opinion in its favour and also to puncture Mr Kejriwal's claims on his governance track-record.
Even though it was in power in Delhi for just 49 days, the AAP has come out with a long list of achievements to buttress its governance track-record. Besides bringing down power and water tariff, the rookie party claims to have brought down corruption levels in various departments. Its decision to file an FIR against Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily, his predecessor Murli Deora and RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani for raising the price of gas exploited from the KG Basin was also trumpeted as a big accomplishment.
