New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit back at Congress President Sonia Gandhi on her speech at the Congress Working Committee meet (CWC) yesterday. Mrs Gandhi at the meet had said that there was a conspiracy against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"We got to know some people in the CWC did speak about issues. Inspite of 40-plus Congress leaders expressing deep concern on the image of the government, PM and Sonia Gandhi are running away from the truth. To live in chronic denial is the DNA of Congress," BJP's national spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said today.
"Soniaji, you have an objection if someone targets the PM...she should accept that under the chair of the PM, worst scams have been happening ....should we felicitate him," Mr Prasad added at a press conference.
At the CWC meet yesterday, Mrs Gandhi made it clear that the PM enjoys her full support, saying "In a democracy, it is the job of the Opposition to oppose but the manner in which Opposition and some anti-Congress elements are, as part of a conspiracy, levelling baseless allegations against the Prime Minister, the UPA government, the party and some of our colleagues, is a matter of regret."
Dr Singh too hit back on allegations against him saying, "Canards and falsehoods being spread" he said, describing the people behind the allegations as "disparate, desperate elements unified only by their opposition to our government."
This was after Anna Hazare and his group of activists had alleged strong corruption charges against the PM and 14 of his senior ministers.
