BJP Lawmaker Gets One-Year Jail Term for Misbehaving With Policeman

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: A local court today awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment to BJP lawmaker Satish Malviya for
misbehaving with a constable and preventing him from discharging his duties.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on the legislator in the case.

The sentence was awarded by the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Manoj Sharma under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (2) (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the prosecution said.

Malviya, the lawmaker from Ghattia constituency in the district, had misbehaved with constable Lakhanlal who was deployed at Chamunda Square and prevented him from discharging his official duties.

Based on the plea by Malviya, the court granted bail to him.
