Muzaffarnagar: BJP leader Sangeet Som, an accused in the riots in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh last year, was caught on camera threatening police officers in Kurthal village in connection with the alleged murders of two cousins.

Mr Som landed in the village on Saturday to meet the relatives of the two cousins who were allegedly killed on Friday night. While the body of one of them was discovered in a nearby forest, the other had been dumped in the village well.

In the video, the BJP MLA is seen telling the local Station House Officer that if the case is not solved soon, he was capable of creating a major ruckus.

One person has been detained in connection with the murders and is being questioned.

Mr Som was booked under the stringent National Security Act after communal riots ripped through Muzaffarnagar, killing over 60 and displacing nearly 40,000. He has been charged with circulating a fake video on social media that fueled tension before the riots.

Union minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Baliyan, who is also the local MP, is also expected to visit the village soon.
