Bhubaneswar:
Police have registered a case against BJP legislature party leader Jayanarayan Mishra and his supporters for allegedly preventing police from performing duty during a religious procession in Odisha two days ago, an official said today.
Mr Mishra and his supporters had also allegedly abused a senior policeman during the Hanuman Jayanti procession at the district headquarters town of Sambalpur on Sunday, Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Deo told IANS.
According to him, Mr Mishra and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters were allegedly attempting to push a procession near the place of worship in the town, about 320 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar, despite objections from the local administration.
When some policemen deployed at the site did not allow the procession, Mr Mishra and his supporters allegedly misbehaved with them, he said.
The police registered a case against Mr Mishra, three senior local BJP leaders and over a dozen of his supporters on the basis of a complaint lodged on Monday by a senior police officer, he said.
They have been booked with the crimes of unlawful assembly, obstructing government officials from discharging of duties, he pointed out.
