Dehradun: Opposition BJP today observed a silence of two hours in Uttarakhand Assembly in protest against the manner in which a no confidence notice brought by the party against the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker were made to fall in the House.
BJP members sat through the session wearing black tapes on their mouth to register their protest against what they termed as the undemocratic way in which the Speaker and the presiding officer appointed by him had announced the defeat of the notice in the absence of opposition party MLAs from the House yesterday.
After the two hours of silence, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt said its was a matter of concern that the notice which was said to have fallen in the House in the absence of opposition MLAs who had staged a walkout was still pending before the Supreme Court.
"It is a case of contempt of court. The notice which is still pending before the apex court is being said to have fallen in the assembly," he said.
Terming it as "murder of democracy" he said the state government also had the appropriation bill passed in the absence of the opposition from the assembly.
