BJP Ready to Form Government in Delhi, Say Sources

BJP Ready to Form Government in Delhi, Say Sources
BJP is reportedly ready to form government in Delhi if it gets an invite from the Lieutenant Governor
New Delhi: A day after BJP chief Amit Shah said as the single largest party, the BJP has the right to form the government in Delhi, sources say the BJP parliamentary party would meet on Tuesday to take a final call on the matter. The board will also take a decision on the chief ministerial candidate.

Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung has reportedly recommended to President Pranab Mukherjee that the option of inviting the BJP to form government in Delhi must be explored. With 29 legislators, the party and its allies are five short of a majority.

Mr Shah met Union minister and senior party leader Nitin Gadkari on Saturday evening where it was reportedly decided that the BJP will explore the option of forming a government if Mr Jung sends a formal proposal to the party. The duo also reportedly decided that senior party leader Jagdish Mukhi will be the party's chief ministerial candidate in that scenario.

Earlier on Saturday, Mr Shah had said, "The BJP is the single largest party and it has the right to form a government. I do not find anything immoral in seeking support to form a government."

His statement came after the Aam Aadmi Party - which stepped down after 48 days of governing Delhi - met the President to pre-empt the BJP's taking a shot at government formation.

Accusing Mr Jung of promoting "horse-trading", the AAP also urged the President against accepting his "unconstitutional advice" and sought "fresh elections" in Delhi.

On Saturday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said the party would think about forming government if it was formally invited by the Lieutenant Governor. The party, he added, did not believe in "horse-trading".
