While leaders said this was to ensure full attendance during elections to various parliamentary committees, there is more to the ruling party's push to ensure all hands on deck. At a meeting of party MPs, held every Tuesday when Parliament is in session, two senior BJP leaders briefed junior ministers from both houses on issues that the opposition might raise and demand answers to in the next few days. And pointers on the issues the BJP will raise.
While Finance Minister Arun Jaitley briefed MPs on the legal and political elements of the Uttarakhand row and the Ishrat Jehan encounter case, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu briefed MPs about the Augusta Wetland helicopter deal case.
