BJP leaders welcome Narendra Modi as he arrives for his swearing-in at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 26

New Delhi: This weekend, the BJP will hold a master class for more than a hundred newbie MPs on how to behave in parliament.

The orientation will be held at a hotel in Surajkund on the border between Delhi and Haryana. The first speaker is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, himself a first-timer member of the Lok Sabha. Other BJP A-listers like party president Rajnath Singh will also brief the rookies.

The BJP crossed the finish line in the national election last month with a massive lead, becoming the first party in nearly 30 years to land a parliamentary majority.

The budget session of parliament begins on July 7. The PM has warned his party workers that "bitter medicine" will be needed to push the economy out of neutral, and in a blog yesterday to mark his first month in office, he spoke of the need to strengthen communication systems to convey "the right things to the right people at the right time".

The new law-makers -161 in total - will be instructed on how to meet the expectations of voters by union minister Venkaiah Naidu. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will lead a class on their rights and duties as parliamentarians. Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj will run them through etiquette in parliament; Power Minister Piyush Goyal will instruct them on how to use social media responsibly and effectively.
