Srinagar: After over a month long suspense over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP and the PDP held a much awaited meeting today to iron out differences for relaunching the alliance in the state. BJP general secretary Ram Madhav and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti held a one-on-one meeting for an hour on Wednesday evening at Ms Mufti's Fair View residence in Srinagar.

The meeting was kept a top secret until Mr Madhav quietly drove inside Ms Mufti's residence. Sources say the meeting has sealed the fate of the alliance. The announcement is expected to come in the next few days. "It's at a make or break point. It can go either way," a source told NDTV.

This was the first formal meeting between senior BJP and PDP leaders over government formation in the state, which is under Governor's Rule since January 8, a day after the sudden death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

On Tuesday, NDTV had reported that Ms Mufti has conveyed her willingness to talk over the stalemate on government formation. During the meeting she had conveyed her concerns and her demand on a timeline for implementation of agenda of alliance. The BJP has reiterated its commitment to implement the common agenda in letter and spirit. Sources say Mr Madhav will apprise the BJP top leaders about the discussion and the outcome of the meeting; the BJP's response is expected to be conveyed to the PDP in the next few days.
