New Delhi:

BJP's Vishwajit Rane, a contender for the chief ministership, met the Goa Governor on Saturday. It was a "personal meeting", Mr Rane told NDTV, adding he is a "disciplined soldier" of the BJP.

BJP sources say they are unaware of the meeting.

On Thursday, asked if Pramod Sawant, who was initially trailing, will continue as the Chief Minister, Mr Rane called it a "sensitive question" and said he "does not know".

Mr Sawant retained the Sanquelim constituency defeating Congress candidate Dharmesh Saglani by a margin of over 650 votes.

With 20 MLAs in its kitty (1 short of the majority mark), the BJP emerged as the single largest party. It also has the support of a key regional player, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), and three Independent MLAs.

While the BJP is all set to form the government in the coastal state, the party has kept suspense over the Chief Minister.

The BJP fought the elections on all 40 seats in the state while the Goa Forward Party (GFP) entered into a pre-poll alliance with Congress. The Trinamool allied with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party for the polls.
