Congress president Sonia Gandhi issued a strong statement today denouncing the killing of five soldiers by Pakistanis in Jammu and Kashmir.
"India cannot be cowed down by such blatant acts of deceit," the statement quoting Mrs Gandhi said.
(Read Sonia Gandhi's full statement)She expressed "deep grief and shock at the deceitful killing of five Indian solders by Pakistan at the LoC in Jammu & Kashmir".
Five Indian soldiers were killed early today when Pakistani troops intruded into Jammu and Kashmir and ambushed an army patrol.
Sonia Gandhi also "extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the martyred soldiers".
"The entire Congress party as indeed the entire country stands by them," Mrs Gandhi said.
She also asked the "government to take appropriate action".
