A militant of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) group was shot dead in an early morning operation by the Army and police in Runikhata area of Kokrajhar district of Assam
Uday Narzary alias Khilikhang was the self-styled Platoon Commander of NDFB(S). He had reportedly trained with the 35th batch and was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a massacre of tribals at Saralpara in December 2014.
Around 40 people were killed in attacks by the militants opposed to peace talk at Saralpara village in Kokrajhar district and Santipur village in Sonitpur district.
One AK-56 rifle, some ammunition and 31,000 rupees were recovered from Narzary.
Based on intelligence inputs about the presence of the terrorist described by the Army as 'hardcore', the Army and Assam Police launched an operation in Edenbari village.
When Narzary entered the area, he was challenged. He opened fire with an automatic rifle. The forces fired back, an Army press release said.
