The police today recovered the body of a four-year-old girl, who went missing on Friday in Chandigarh. They are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm if she was raped.
"The child has been found murdered. We cannot confirm at this stage if she was raped also, which will be established only after the post-mortem examination," said Chandigarh Senior Supritendent of Police or SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, after parents of the child and locals staged protest in Chandigarh.
The parents of the minor had filed a police complaint after she went missing, last evening.
Angry family members and locals protested against police inaction in tracing her. The colony residents raised slogans against the police and the forces faced a tough time dealing with the situation.
The police had to resort to using mild force to disperse the angry mob. "We are trying to maintain law and order situation in the area," said Assistant Superintendent of Police (East) Parvinder Singh.
Further investigation in the case is going on.
