The bullet-riddled body of a person, missing after a drinking session with a group, was found floating on river Churni in West Bengal's Nadia district today.
Police said the victim Shankar Das, 40, was lured on promise of giving Rs 2.5 lakh loan by some men and taken to a deserted spot from Ranaghat to Milanbaganpara on the side of the river where he was invited to a drinking session.
However, Shankar was later on shot dead and his body dumped into the river, police said quoting Shankar's companion Riaz Sheikh who was stabbed and fired at by the same gang but somehow managed to escape their clutches and fell unconscious while running along NH 34.
He was now recuperating at JNM Hospital, Kalyani.
Inquiries revealed Shankar already owed a huge amount of loan money to the gang members, whom he had failed to repay and the assailants had plotted the murder beforehand. Riaz being his companion at the spot, he was also targetted by the gang.
