Bomb Blast Averted at Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad Station

Bomb Blast Averted at Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad Station
A bomb set to go off at 6.20 am today at the Farrukhabad railway station was detected by a patrol party averting a major tragedy, the police have said.

The bomb was detected by the railway police just minutes before the Manipuri passenger train was about to leave from the station, said the police.

Railway officials evacuated all passengers from the platform, halted the movement of trains and immediately contacted a bomb disposal squad in Kanpur.

The bomb disposal squad led by MK Pandey confirmed that the object was a bomb which did not go off after the timer developed a problem. He said further details would be available only after a thorough probe into the matter.

In another incident, a bomb hoax at Tundla railway station in Firozabad district forced the Lucknow-bound Shatabdi Express to halt for over 30 minutes.

"Following information regarding the bomb on board the Shatabdi Express, the train was stopped at Tundla railway station in Firozabad district this morning around 8:30 am," Inspector GRP Tundla Hukkum Pal Singh said.

Police confirmed that only an empty bag was recovered from the generator room during the checking.

Another major train mishap was also recently averted near Mohanlalganj, on the outskirts of the Lucknow, after an alert Prayag-Lucknow passenger train driver noticed a 50 cm rail track missing.
