Jalpaiguri, West Bengal: A bomb scare broke out in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district today after passengers travelling in a state-run bus raised alarm over an unclaimed tiffin box.

According to the bus conductor, Nirmal Paul, the bus had left the Jalpaiguri depot with a couple of passengers and about a dozen more passengers got on the bus at the next stop.

"Suddenly an elderly man travelling with a child called me and pointed to a suspicious object that looked like a tiffin box lying under the seat in front of him," said the bus conductor Nirmal Paul.

The conductor immediately told the driver to slow down the bus and take it to a less crowded spot. All passengers safely evacuated the bus. He then called up authorities at the bus depot and reported the suspicious object.

The bomb squad has been rushed to the spot and police investigations are on.
