New Delhi : The Border Security Force or BSF has released thermal images of a major infiltration bid by Pakistani terrorists in the Hiranagar sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Filmed on Wednesday night, the footage shows terrorists firing and throwing bombs at a post of the BSF and the security forces firing back.
The terrorists, in the thermal images, can be seen ducking for cover and retreating.
According to the BSF, six terrorists, taking advantage of undulating terrain on the Pakistani side, reached close to the International Border and fired automatic rifles and Rocket Propelled Grenades or RPGs at a BSF post.
The BSF fired back and forced the group to retreat towards the Pakistani side. The attack took place around 11:45 pm and the firing lasted close to 20 minutes, said officials.
Since Wednesday night, Pakistan has been targeting BSF posts from across the border. A BSF constable, Gurnam Singh, was hit by sniper fire on Friday morning in Kathua, which is about 90 km from Jammu. He is in critical condition in a Jammu hospital.
In retaliatory fire by security forces, seven Pakistani Rangers or paramilitary soldiers were killed by the BSF along the International Border in Hiranagar sector in Kathua. The Pakistan army however has denied there have been any casualties on their side.
There have been multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistan since Indian soldiers crossed the Line of Control and targeted staging areas for terrorists in surgical strikes last month. These came days after Pakistani terrorists killed 19 soldiers at an army base in Uri in Kashmir.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told the army it has the right to respond forcefully to provocation and to attacks on soldiers.
