Jammu:
The cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Trikuta hills of Reasi district today received the season's first snowfall, even as pilgrims made a beeline to the shrine to pay obeisance on New Year.
Trikuta hills and nearby region received eight inches of season's first snow, a shrine board official told PTI.
Despite the snowfall, over 30,000 pilgrims are on their way to cave shrine to pay their obeisance on New Year day, they said.
Braving the chill, pilgrims were seen shouting hymns and moving towards Bhawan from Katra, the base camp of the shrine, they said.
Moghal road connecting Kashmir Valley's Shopian district with Jammu region's Poonch district has also been closed following heavy snowfall.
Pir Ki Gali area received maximum snowfall with six feet of snow, defence officials said.
