Guwahati: The British High Commission has expressed its gratitude to the government and people of Assam for making the visit of royal couple, Prince William and his wife Kate, to Assam a success.

A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office in Guwahati on Wednesday said British Deputy High Commissioner to India Scott Furssedonn Wood sent a letter to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoyed the time they spent in Assam with its people.

"The letter made a particular mention about how the royal couple was impressed with the hospitality of Assam and the excellent work that the state has put in with regard to conservation strategies for rhinos and other wildlife and steps taken to address the problem of man-animal conflict," the statement said.

"The British High Commission has also placed on record the unparalleled cooperation rendered by the government of Assam which was instrumental in making the visit a success."

It said the visit of the royal couple "further strengthened the historic connection between the United Kingdom and Assam".

"Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton also expressed their strong desire to visit Assam again to enjoy its pristine beauty and unique flora and fauna along with simple, colourful yet hospitable people," it said.
