The brother of Arjun Rampal's partner Gabriella Demetriades has been arrested in Goa in a case involving the seizure of a small quantity of hashish and charas contraband.
The Narcotics Control Bureau said in a statement that Agisilaos Demetriades was arrested on Friday for illicit possession of the recovered drug. He has been sent to judicial custody. He has been arrested earlier by the anti-drugs agency in connection with two cases.
Mr Rampal, who is currently in London, said in a statement, "As far as my family and I are concerned, my direct family and I are law-abiding citizens. And while the incident involves a person who is a relative of my partner, I have no other connection or relationship other than that with this person."
Agisilaos Demetriades is among four people arrested during a series of raids in Goa over the week, an official said, according to news agency PTI.
The NCB's Goa sub zone unit arrested Nouman Savery (22), originally from Chhattisgarh, at Siolim beach village in North Goa on Wednesday. Thereafter, they arrested his partner Siddiq Ahmed (25) of Hyderabad, the official said.
In a different operation on Friday, the NCB team seized contraband from the residence of Agisilaos Demetriades, a South African national, at Pernem in North Goa.
During another raid, the NCB Mumbai and Goa units seized Ecstasy pills at Nagoa village in North Goa on Friday and arrested one Mayur Mohnani, a resident of Mumbai, the official said. All the accused have been sent to judicial custody, he added.
In the alleged Bollywood drugs nexus case, in which Agisilaos Demetriades was arrested last year, the central agency had also questioned Arjun Rampal and his partner Gabriella Demetriades.
The anti-drugs agency has been conducting several operations to stop usage of drugs but has been accused of going after users instead of cartels that supply these drugs.
