Jalandhar:
The BSF on Thursday said that security has been beefed up along the Indo-Pak border after the recent incident of rocket firing by the Pakistani side and a meeting was held with the neighbouring country regarding this.
"We have beefed up the security of the Indo-Pak border after the recent rocket fire incident and the issue was taken up with Pakistan Rangers," IG Punjab, BSF, Himmat Singh said in Jalandhar on Thursday.
Elaborating further on the intensified security, Singh said after an audit of manpower in the force, more men have been sent for guarding duty from the non-active duties.
Regarding the recent rocket firing on the border villages, the IG said after two days of the incident, a Sector Commander level meeting was held in which BSF strongly raised objections over the incident and warned Pakistani Rangers that befitting reply would be given to any such incident in future.
"Acting in a prompt manner, BSF officials immediately opened fire to the direction from where the rockets were fired being from the Pakistan side," he said.
The Pakistani side after initial refusal promised to probe the incident, he said.
On fencing along Indo-Pak border, he said work on shifting of fencing in Ferozepur and Abohar Sector was already on and regarding the replacement of old fencing, a proposal has already been sent to the Centre.
