BSF Returns Pakistani Child Who Had Accidentally Crossed Border

Ahmedabad: In a humanitarian gesture, a four-year-old Pakistani boy, who had mistakenly crossed over to India, was returned to his parents by the Border Security Force (BSF), officials said in Ahmedabad today.

"On Friday night, a BSF patrol saw a boy near a border post. We took him with us and provided him with food, clothes as well as toys. Yesterday, we returned him safely to his parents in Pakistan," BSF Deputy Commander (Bhuj Range) Himanshu Gaur told PTI today.

The BSF conducted a flag meeting with Pakistani Rangers including Lieutenant Colonel Baig Mirza Laeeq and Deputy Superitendent of Rangers (DSR) Tariq, who expressed their gratitude.

According to an official statement by the BSF, the child was identified as Ali Sajjan Gohar (4), who hailed from Dandari village in Badin district of Pakistan's Sindh Province.

"On the night of December 20, a BSF patrol on the Gujarat frontier found a child crying near the border post, at a distance of 100 yards from the international border, towards the Indian side," a BSF statement said.
"The patrol commander calmed down the child, took him to the post and gave him milk and biscuits. After having food, he became comfortable," the statement said.

The child could not speak much and spoke only Sindhi language, which BSF troops could not understand, the statement added.

Later, Pakistani Rangers were informed about the child, after which a flag meeting was organised near the Vighakot-Gujarat Border, between officials of the two border forces, and the child was handed over to his father Sajjan Gohar, it said.
