New Delhi:

On Tuesday SP General Secretary Amar Singh rushed to meet the President to offer the his party's letters of support to the second Manmohan Singh government.

With 25 MPs the Samajwadi Party is the third largest party, Mayawati close behind with 21 MPs also announced she had sent a letter of support to the President and Sonia Gandhi stressing unconditional support.

"Dr Manmohan Singh told me that I am like his younger sister and requested me to adopt a positive approach to the UPA government against communal forces," said Mayawati, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh.

"The PM called us and asked for our support I have spoken to the PM twice on Monday," said Amar Singh, General Secretary, Samajwadi Party.

So, one weekend has changed political equations. From CBI cases, to a letter a day on government decisions, as the SP's price for support during the vote of confidence, now unconditional is the new mantra.

But the victorious UPA is now playing hard to get. Congress sources told NDTV that they will not include either the SP or the BSP in the list that the Prime Minister gives the President on Wednesday and their focus is to look at independents instead.

Yet, in politics no one is a permanent outsider, the Congress still has to play its cards carefully because they are in a minority in the Upper House and need the smaller parties for support.
