A barber entered the house of a man who lived across the street from his shop and allegedly murdered his two children in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun. The murderer was shot dead in an encounter after he attacked the cops while fleeing, police said on Wednesday.
The double murder sparked tension in the city on Tuesday evening but the situation is under control now, they added.
Sajid ran a barber shop near the victims' house in Baba Colony and knew their father, Vinod. On Tuesday evening, he entered the house and asked for a loan of Rs 5,000, police said. When the children's mother left the room to make him tea, he went to the second floor of the house and attacked Vinod's three children - Aayush (11), Piyush (7) and Ahaan (6).
He slit Aayush and Ahaan's throats and also tried to kill Piyush before fleeing the scene, police said. While the two brothers died, Piyush sustained minor injuries.
Sajid was caught nearby but he tried to attack the police and was killed in an encounter. According to the police, the motive behind the murders is not known.
"I had no dispute with him. I was away from home for work when he came to the house. He asked for Rs 5,000 and my wife gave him the money. One of my sons was able to escape his attack and warn his mother," Vinod told NDTV.
Budaun District Magistrate Manoj Kumar said the police have received information about protests by the locals and called on people to maintain peace.
"We received information this evening that a man entered a house and murdered two young children. After this, there was an agitation by the people. They have been asked to maintain peace and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem," he told news agency ANI.
