Buddhadeb blames party workers for poll debacle, calls for 'change in attitude'

Maheshtala, West Bengal: Kicking off his campaign for the forthcoming Assembly polls in West Bengal, chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday blamed CPI(M) workers for the recent electoral debacles in the state, calling for a "change in attitude" to win back lost ground.

Addressing a rally, Bhattacharjee said that the rise in arch-rival Trinamool Congress' fortunes was more a case of negative wins arising out of the actions and behaviour of a few erring Left workers.

"How did the Trinamool get so many votes in the civil polls and Lok Sabha? The Trinamool has done no good work. No one is voting for that party. Some mistakes by our party have hurt the people. It is high time we change our attitude to the people, try to bridge the gap with them. Correct yourself", Bhattacharjee said in a warning to party cadres.

The rest of the rally saw Bhattacharjee take Trinamool Congress to task for the usual charge of colluding with the Maoists. But, for the first time, he also blamed the party for price rise and corruption, twin barbs that had so far been reserved for the Congress.

"We'll have to defeat the unholy Trinamool-Congress alliance which is responsible for the unchecked price rise and hoarding of crores of blackmoney", Bhattacharjee said.

Attacking the Opposition further for its insensitivity to price rise, the chief minister added, "The Congress is the party of the rich. The Trinamool is also the party of the rich."
