Billionaire industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla has been granted permission to import a bullet proof BMW for his use in the National Capital region.
The BMW from Germany would be used by Birla and his family, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said.
The permission has been given by DGFT in the Commerce Ministry after it received a no-objection certificate from the Home Ministry, it said.
"The Committee (policy relaxation panel) granted permission to Hindalco Industries for import of one bullet proof BMW 760 Li from BMW, Germany for use by Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Hindalco Industries and his family members for use in NCR of Delhi," it said.
Since the bullet proof car is highly customised, it does not carry a fixed cost. A normal BMW 7 Series sedan can cost between Rs 80 lakh and Rs 2 crore depending on customisation levels.
