The private bus, carrying around 65 passengers, skidded off a bridge near Chandpura village around 4 am and fell into the 15-feet deep gorge of Jamni river.

Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh: At least 20 passengers, including three women and a nine-year old girl, were injured when a bus fell into a deep gorge of a dry river in the district early this morning, police said.

The private bus, carrying around 65 passengers, skidded off a bridge near Chandpura village around 4 am and fell into the 15-feet deep gorge of Jamni river, about 75 kms from the district headquarters, Prithvipur police station in-charge C L Parihar said.

The bus was en route Khargapur town of Tikamgarh from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh when its driver lost control over the wheels on the bridge, he said.

A seriously hurt passenger was referred to Jhansi for treatment while the other injured persons were given first aid at a primary health centre in Prithvipur town here and allowed to go home, Parihar said.

The driver and other staff of the bus fled the spot after the accident.
