By Election Results 2020: BJP Ahead In Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, UP. (Representational)
In a clean sweep, the ruling BJP on Tuesday won all the eight assembly seats in Gujarat where by elections were held, dealing a blow to the opposition Congress which had bagged these constituencies in 2017. The BJP's tally in the 182-member Assembly has now reached 111. The party has also won six out of seven seats in Uttar Pradesh. The remaining one seat has been bagged by Samajwadi Party.
Voting for the eight seats was held on November 3 and counting of ballots was taken up on Tuesday.
The BJP was also looking set to sweep Madhya Pradesh where it was ahead in 19 of 28 constituencies, according to Election Commission trends.
Votes were also counted for the by-elections in Manipur (five seats), Haryana (one), Chhattisgarh (one), Jharkhand (two), Karnataka (two), Nagaland (two), Odisha (two) and Telangana (one).
The votes for the November 3 bye-elections were counted along with the ballots for the Bihar polls and progressed in accordance with Election Commission guidelines restricting the number of people in counting halls, officials said. Extensive measures were taken to ensure social distancing.

After BJP won the Dubbaka Assembly by-election in Telangana, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday said that with the by-poll victory, people conveyed the message that the BJP will emerge as an alternative to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party and form a government in the state.
"Dubbaka seat was a stronghold of TRS where people made BJP winner. People told us that in the coming day BJP will emerge as an alternative to TRS in Telangana and form a government here," he said.
BJP minister Imarti Devi loses bypoll in Madhya PradeshIn a setback to the BJP, its woman minister in Madhya Pradesh Imarti Devi lost bypoll from the Dabra assembly seat on Tuesday, an election official said.
Congress candidate Suresh Raje defeated Imarti Devi, considered a loyalist of BJP Rajya Sabha member Jyotiraditya Scindia, by a margin of 7,633 votes, the official said.
Odisha Bypolls: BJD Wins Balasore, Tirtol Seats
The ruling BJD in Odisha on Tuesday wrested the Balasore assembly seat from the BJP and retained Tirtol in the bypolls held last week, news agency PTI reported.
The BJP has so far won 12 out of the 28 assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, news agency PTI reported.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the performance of BJP in the Assembly by-polls points to the possibility that the party will perform well in the 2022 state election as well.
"In the by-polls, Bharatiya Janata Party has repeated its performance of the 2017 state assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This points that BJP will perform well in the upcoming elections also," Yogi Adityanath told reporters at a press conference.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister further said that all the predictions in the exit polls have been proven wrong in Bihar.
"All the predictions in Bihar have been proven wrong in Bihar. ''Modi hai to mumkin hai'' has been proven right by the people of Bihar and the states that went to by-polls recently," he said.

He further said that the lead margins for the candidates in Uttar Pradesh by-polls is very high: 17,000 to 32,000.
"BJP candidates in the UP by-polls lead their opponents by 17,000 to 32,000 votes. This proves that the government in the state is working well under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the people of Madhya Pradesh for giving a clear mandate in favour of his party and said the verdict of the bypolls proved that Congress leader Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh were traitors.
"I am a worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I am thankful to the people of the State for giving a clear mandate in favour of the party. Results have proven that Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh are traitors," Mr Scindia told ANI.
He further said that the Congress party's situation would get worse if they kept questioning the credibility of electronic voting machines (EVM).

BJP's Raghunandan Rao wins Dubbak Assembly bypollBJP candidate M Raghunandan Rao on Tuesday won the by election to the Dubbak Assembly constituency bypoll in Telangana,the Election Commission said.
He defeated his nearest rival Solipeta Sujatha of the ruling TRS by 1,079 votes.
"The BJP candidate won by 1,079 votes," Siddipet district Collector Bharati Hollikeri told PTI. Rao got 63,352 votes, while Sujatha secured 62,273 votes, she said.
Gujarat bypolls Live: BJP wins all eight seats
In a blow to Congress in Gujarat, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won all eight seats where assembly bye-elections were held in the state.
BJP won Dangs, Abdasa, Dhari, Kaprada, Karjan, Morbi, Limbdi and Gadhada.
In Dangs, BJP's Pate Vijaybhai Rameshbhai defeated Suryakantbhai Ratanbhai Gavit of Congress by a margin of 60,095 votes.
Jadeja Pradhyumansinh Manipatsinh of BJP won in Abdasa against Shantilal Senghani of Congress with a margin of 36,778 votes while in Dhari, BJP's Kakadiya JV defeated Suresh Manubhai Kotadiya of Congress by a margin of 17,209 votes.
In Kaprada, BJP's Jitubhai Harjibhai Chaudhari defeated Babubhai Jivlabhai Patel Alias(Varatha) of Congress by 47,066 votes. In Karjan, BJP's Akshaykumar Iswarbhai Patel won against Jadeja Kiritsinh Dolubha of Congress with 16,425 votes.
Kiritsinh Jitubha Rana defeated Khachar Chetanbhai Ramkubhai of Congress by 32,050 votes in Limbdi.
In Morbi, BJP's Brijesh Merja won against Jayantilal Jerajbhai Patel of Congress by 4,649 votes.
In Gadhada, BJP's Atmaram Makanbhai Parmar defeated Mohanbhai Shankarbhai Solanki of Congress by 23,295 votes.
Madhya Pradesh bypolls Live: With 9 seats already in kitty, BJP gets simple majorityWith the BJP winning nine out of the 28 assembly seats in bypolls in Madhya Pradesh so far on Tuesday, the ruling party has already attained a simple majority in the 230-member house.

UP bypolls Live: Samajwadi Party bags Malhani assembly seat with 4,632 votesThe Samajwadi Party on Tuesday retained the Malhani assembly seat with its nominee Lucky Yadav defeating Independent candidate Dhananjaya Singh by a margin of 4,632 votes.
The bypolls to the seat were necessitated due the death of sitting party MLA Parasnath Yadav.
Madhya Pradesh bypolls Live: BJP wins from Bamori, Nepanagar seatsJyotiraditya Scindia's loyalist and state minister Mahendra Singh Sisodia of the BJP won byelection from Bamori in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday by 53,153 votes, officials said.
Mr Sisodia defeated Congress' Kanhaiya Lal Agrawal, a former BJP leader and minister. Sisodia got 1,01,124 votes against his Congress rival's 47,971 votes.
Mr Sisodia had quit the Congress in March this year to join the BJP.
The BJP's Sumitradevi Kasdekar won from Nepanagar by a margin of 26,340 votes. She defeated the Congress' Ramkishan Patel.
Madhya Pradesh bypolls live: Counting paused for an hour after Congress supporters allege mismanagement
The counting of votes in the Madhya Pradesh bypolls, which were paused after the 14th round on Tuesday due to the allegations of mismanagement and unfair conduct against the polling officials by the Congress, was resumed after an hour.
Party leader and Sanwer candidate Premchand Guddu's son, Ajit Borasi, claimed that the seals of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were broken and that the officials were working under the pressure of the state's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
"All officials, including the police and the district collectors, are working as agents inside. They are all working under the BJP's pressure. Several EVM seals were found broken. I saw six of them myself," he alleged.
"In the last 14 rounds, we have made several complaints but no action has been taken. I will be taking this to court," he added.
Guddu's daughter Rashmi Borasi echoed: "The tags were mismatched and many of them did not have signatures. The pink-paper seals and green seals did not match. When we asked the officials about this, they said that these things happen and avoided our questions. The police are also not checking for mobile phones properly."
With the declaration of the 15th round of counting, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Tulsiram Silavat is currently leading in the Sanwer Assembly constituency with 73,173 votes, followed by Premchand Guddu of the Congress with 45,802 votes, lagging behind by 27,371 votes.
Madhya Pradesh bypolls live: Ministers Prabhuram Choudhary, Bisahulal Singh winMadhya Pradesh health minister Dr Prabhuram Choudhary on Tuesday won Assembly bypoll from Sanchi in the state by 63,809 votes, defeating Congress' Madanlal Choudhary, an official said.
Another minister, senior tribal leader Bisahulal Singh won from Anuppur with a margin of 34,864 by defeating Congress' Vishwanath Singh.
Both Choudhary and Bisahulal Singh had left the Congress in March this year.
Mr Choudhary got 1,16,577 votes while his Congress rival bagged 52,768 votes in Sanchi.

UP: BJP wins Unnao's Bangermau assembly seat by 31,398 votesThe ruling BJP retained the Unnao's Bangermau assembly seat after its candidate Shrikant Katiyar defeated Congress' Arti Bajpai by 31,398 votes.
Bangermau is among the seven assembly constituencies in the state for which bypolls were held on November 3.
The seat fell vacant following the conviction of sitting MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in a rape case.
Manipur bypolls live: BJP wins 2 seats, Independent 1BJP candidates won two seats while an Independent candidate bagged one in the by-election to four Manipur Assembly constituencies, the results of which were announced on Tuesday, officials said.
BJP candidates Oinam Lukhoi Singh and Paonam Brojen Singh won the Wangoi seat and Wangjing Tentha seats respectively, they said.
Oinam Lukho Singh defeated his nearest rival Khuraijam Loken Singh of the National People's Party by 257 votes while Paonam Brojen Singh trounced his nearest Congress rival Moirangthem Hemanta Singh by 1,560 votes.
Independent candidate Y Antas Khan, won the Lilong seat by defeating his nearest Independent rival Mohd Abdul Nasir by 3,078 votes.
BJP candidate Ngamthang Haokip was ahead of his Congress rival Lamtinthang Haokip by 7,661 votes in the Saitu seat.

As Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) established a lead in Madhya Pradesh by-polls, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday alleged that "selective tampering" of EVMs was the reason behind his party losing seats "that [Congress] would not have lost in any circumstance.
"EVMs are not tamper-proof, and selective tampering is done. There are seats that we would have not lost in any circumstance but we did by thousands of votes. We'll hold a meeting tomorrow and analyse the results," said Digvijaya Singh while addressing media.
In response to the Congress leader's allegations, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Digvijaya Singh is making excuses for his party''s defeat.

Bypoll Results Live: EVMs absolutely robust and tamper-proof, says Election CommissionAgainst the backdrop of some leaders questioning the reliability of EVMs, the Election Commission (EC) asserted on Tuesday that the machines are "absolutely robust and tamper-free".
After the ruling NDA took a lead over the opposition Grand Alliance in the poll trends for Bihar on Tuesday, Congress leader Udit Raj raised questions on the reliability of EVMs, asking why the machines cannot be hacked if satellites can be controlled from the earth.
But another Congress leader, Karti Chidambaram, said the electronic voting machine (EVM) system is robust, accurate and dependable.
"This has always been my view. I stand by it. There have been doubters of the EVM from across political parties, particularly when the results don't go in their favour. Till now no one has demonstrated scientifically their claims. Whatever be the outcome of any election, it's time to stop blaming the EVM. In my experience, the EVM system is robust, accurate and dependable," he tweeted.
Responding to a question on doubts being raised by some politicians, Deputy Election Commissioner in-charge of EVMs Sudip Jain told reporters that the machines are absolutely robust and tamper-proof.
Dubakka bypolls Live update: BJP wins Dubbaka Assembly bypoll in Telangana
BJP has won in the Dubbaka Assembly by-election, informed Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday.
BJP's M Raghunandan Rao defeated TRS' Solipeta Sujatha by 1,470 votes.
BJP secured 62,772 votes, TRS secured 61,302 votes and Congress bagged 21,819 votes. The vote share of BJP in the by-election was 38.21 per cent as opposed to TRS' 38.08 per cent.

Karnataka bypolls Live: BJP's N Munirathna wins RR Nagar assembly byelection BJP candidate N Munirathna on Tuesday won the byelection to Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency in Karnataka, officials said.

Madhya Pradesh bypolls Live: BJP leads on 21 seats, Congress ahead on six
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 21 seats, while Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are ahead on six and one seats, respectively in Madhya Pradesh bypolls, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday.
As per the ECI at 3 pm, BJP's vote share stands at 51.3 per cent with its candidates leading in Gwalior, Gwalior East, Dabra, Bamori, Ambah, Sanwer, Bandawar and Jaura seats, among others.
Meanwhile, Congress candidates, with 39.9 per cent combined vote share, are ahead on Agar, Karera, Biaora, Sumaoli, Dimani and Gohad seats.
The lone BSP candidate is leading from Morena seat in Madhya Pradesh.
The result of 28 assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh will decide the fate of Shivraj Singh Chouhan led-BJP government, which requires at least eight more MLAs for a clear majority in the state assembly.
Nagaland bypolls Live: NDDP leading in Southern Angami I, Independent ahead in Pungro Kiphire The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) nominee Medo Yhokha was leading in the by-election to the Southern Angami I seat while Independent candidate T Yangseo Sangtam was ahead in the Pungro Kiphire constituency in Nagaland, as per trends.
Mr Yhokha was leading by 624 votes over his nearest Independent rival Seyievilie Peter Zashumo in the Southern Angami I seat, as per the Election Commission website.
In the Pungro Kiphire constituency, T Yangseo Sangtam was ahead of his nearest Independent rival S Kiusumew Yimchunger by 1,527 votes, the data said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are both leading on one seat each in Jharkhand, as per the trends at 2 pm according to Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday.
As per the ECI, BJP's Lois Marandi is leading by a margin of 3,173 votes from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Basant Soren on the Dumka seat.
Meanwhile, Congress' Kumar Jaimangal (Anup Singh) is ahead by 11,677 votes from BJP's Yogeshwar Mahto ''Batul'' on the Bermo seat.
While BJP had fielded candidates from both Bermo and Dumka allies in the state government, Congress and JMM, had fielded candidates in one seat each.
As per the ECI, BJP's vote share is at 44.5 per cent, while that of JMM is 20.1 per cent and Congress is at 28.6 per cent.

The Election Commission on Tuesday said that there has been glitch-free counting in the Bihar assembly elections as well as elections to by-polls in 54 assembly constituencies.
"Needless to say that there has been an absolutely glitch-free counting process so far. Slightly more than 1 crore votes have been counted in Bihar which means that there is significant ground to be covered yet," said Deputy Election Commissioner Ashish Kundra.

Regarding postal ballots, Deputy Election Commissioner Chandrabhushan said, "As per law, all postal ballots received till 8 am today are to be taken up for counting. It means postal ballots received at counting centres till at 8 am today need to be taken up for counting. Data related to it will be available at the level of the concerned returning officer."

We fought the elections on positive and developmental issues which the people have wholeheartedly accepted. We thank the people for this," Mr Singh said.

BJP's Oinam Lukhoi Singh, has been declared the winner from Wangoi seat beating closest rival National People''s Party''s Khuraijam Loken Singh by a close margin of 257 votes.
Earlier today, BJP's Ginsuanhau had been declared the winner from the Singhat Assembly seat by the ECI.

Counting is underway in the November 3 by-elections to Dumka and Bermo assembly seats in Jharkhand. Security personnel, including central forces, have been deployed at the counting centres and CCTVs have been installed, state joint chief electoral officer Hiralal mandal

Votes will be counted in 18 rounds in Dumka and 17 rounds in Bermo seat in Bokaro district. The process is expected to be completed by 3 pm.

The counting of votes for the bypoll to the Baroda assembly seat in Haryana began at 8 am, officials said. There will be 20 rounds of counting. Three-tier security has been provided at the counting centre in Mohana, Sonipat, PTI reported quoting an official.
