"The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the signing and ratification of the Extradition Treaty between India and Afghanistan," said an official statement.

According to the Government, the treaty would provide a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists, economic offenders and other criminals from and to Afghanistan.

The cabinet nod comes ahead of Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani's two-day visit to India from September 14.
