The government has recommended that
President's Rule in Arunachal Pradesh should end, sources have told NDTV. If the President approves the cabinet's recommendation, political groups can explore government formation.
The cabinet made the recommendation based on a Home Ministry note that included a report from Governor JP Rajkhowa on the latest political situation in the sensitive border state.
According to sources, the last report from the Governor did indicate that political outfits had sought to form government.
On Monday, 31 lawmakers led by Congress dissident Kalikho Pul, met the Governor to stake claim.
The Congress rebel leader was accompanied by 19 Congress and 11 BJP legislators and two independent members.
In response, the Congress
rushed to the Supreme Court and sought an order that no new government formation is permitted and status quo be maintained.
What helped the Centre's intent to lift Presidents rule was the apex court's refusal to pass an interim order restraining the Governor from swearing in a new government in Arunachal Pradesh.
The revolt by Congress dissidents led by Mr Pul had led to a political crisis in the state that finally led to imposition of President's rule on January 26.
Sources in the Governor's House say that Former chief minister Nabam Tuki reportedly has the support of 26 legislators in the 60-member Assembly.
After the last assembly polls in 2011, the Congress had 47 legislators but it suffered a jolt when 21 of them revolted against Mr Tuki's leadership. The chief minister responded by suspending the rebels.
With the Congress ship rocking 11 BJP legislators and two independents had backed the rebels in the bid to upstage the government. Later, 14 rebel Congress legislators were disqualified by the Speaker.
The Supreme Court, which is considering pleas against imposition of President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh, is hearing petitions seeking examination of constitutional schemes on the scope of discretionary powers of the Governor.
