Raipur: A fierce gun-fight today broke out between security forces and Naxals in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district following which a huge cache of explosives and Maoist-related material was recovered.

The skirmish took place early this morning when a joint team of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and district force were out on an anti-Naxal operation in Basaguda police station area of the district, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.

While security forces were cordoning off Chhote Tarrem village forests, a group of armed rebels opened fire on them prompting security forces to retaliate, the ASP said, adding, Maoists soon fled into deep forests taking cover of rough terrain.

Later, 6-8 pipe bombs, pitthu (bags), Naxals posters, banners and other related materials were recovered, he added.

Blood stains were found at the spot indicating that some ultras might have been injured or killed in the gun battle, the ASP said.
