Calcutta High Court Postpones CBI Petition for Cancelling Madan Mitra's Bail Plea

Calcutta High Court Postpones CBI Petition for Cancelling Madan Mitra's Bail Plea

Madan Mitra was arrested by the CBI for alleged complicity in the Saradha scam in December, 2014.

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court today adjourned till tomorrow hearing on the CBI petition for cancellation of state Transport Minister Madan Mitra's bail plea.

When the matter came up for hearing, a division bench of justices Nishita Mhatre and Tapas Mukherjee said since Mr Mitra's lawyers have not filed their affidavit before the court in opposition to the CBI's prayer, the case would come up for hearing tomorrow.

Mr Mitra, who was arrested by the CBI on December 12, 2014, for alleged complicity in the Saradha scam, was granted bail by an Alipore court on October 31.

Later, the Calcutta High Court had directed that Mr Mitra would remain in house confinement under police surveillance till disposal of a CBI plea for cancellation of his bail.

The minister's bail prayers had earlier been rejected by trial courts on a few occasions and once by the High Court.
