Samajwadi party on Saturday congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the Lok Sabha verdict and said it will think about supporting the party if approached by it.
"I congratulate the Prime Minister and Congress President on this verdict. The Central Parliamentary Committee of the party will sit and decide the future course of action. If Congress approaches us (regarding the formation of government) we will think over it.
"We had earlier supported the Congress, apart from someissues, we have always supported it. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has not, officially or unofficially, communicated anything to us," Samajwadi General Secretary Amar Singh told reporters here.
He said, "We fought elections without the Congress and this has weakened the BSP in the state but it has not been eliminated."
On Jaya Prada wining from Rampur, Singh said "I am happier than Jaya Prada herself on her victory. I had put everything on stake for her victory, which is a slap on the face of those who denigrate women."
