Can we clone the Mahatma? asks MP
New Delhi:

Amid a raging global debate over human cloning, Rajya Sabha on Friday heard a call from one of its members who said he would not mind having a law for such a research if the Mahatama could be recreated through it.

"Can Mahatma Gandhi be made to reborn with all his genes? Congressman Shantaram Laxman Naik raised a supplementary question during the Question Hour.

When the Chairman of House sought some clarity on the query, Naik repeated, "Isn't a law worth having if through it research could be to done to have Gandhi in a cloned form, with all his qualities -- honesty, dedication and simplicity?

"This would help all of us who are going astray and need guidance."

Responding to Naik, Minister of State for Health Dinesh Trivedi simply said, what was required is "to adopt his principles, which we all are trying to do".
