Candle light march in Leh for cloudburst victims
Leh: A massive candle light march was held in memory of the victims of the cloudburst on Thursday which was attended by people from various strata of society including locals, monks, nuns and foreigners.

The condolence peace march which started off around seven in the evening from the petrol pump area was attended by thousands of people.

The cloudburst followed by flash floods claimed 166 lives and injured hundreds others, took place on the intervening night of August 5 and 6.

The crowd, slowly marching towards the main market, was led by the monks who chanted from holy scriptures. Bystanders kept joining the march as it progressed and slowly the entire stretch of the main road was swarmed with candle-bearing people.

Despite the presence of a large number of people, the march was a silent one barring the murmurings of prayers especially when they passed by the damaged properties.

"I heard about the march through a friend of mine. I came here to express my solidarity," Cluseau, a France national, said.
