Kolkata: In an instance of security lapse, a car entered Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's convoy while he was being driven to the airport in Kolkata on Monday evening on his way to board a Delhi-bound flight.

The incident occurred near the Gate number of 5 of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

State Congress President Manas Bhuniya said: "A car (Sedan) got near the jammer vehicle of the convoy. But the car immediately took a right turn leading to the domestic terminal of the airport."

Admitting that no untoward incident was reported, Bhuniya alleged, "The police did not take any step to intercept the errant vehicle."

When contacted, North 24 Parganas Additional Police Superintendent Sayed Mohammad Hossen Mirza said: "We have no knowledge of the incident as I was inside the airport then."

However, a police officer of the airport outpost said on condition of anonymity that a case has been initiated to find out how the car sneaked into Rahul Gandhi's convoy.

Earlier, on August 9 a truck got into Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's convoy and hit a car near Kolaghat bridge of East Midnapore, while she was returning from her Lalgarh rally.
