Cargo ships collide on river Hooglhy

Haldia: Two foreign ships - both cargo vessels - have collided 34 nautical miles from Kolkata on the Hooghly River.

So far, no casualties or oil leaks are being reported from either ship.

Green Valley of Bahamas was headed to Kolkata, while Tiger Spring of Gibraltar was on its way out. They hit each other at a spot called Hooghly Point- the narrowest point in the channel.

Both have been moved aside so they don't affect shipping in the area.

Both vessels will be brought back to Kolkata tomorrow.
