New Delhi:
A Delhi court today extended till Wednesday the interim bail granted to Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh in connection with the cash-for-votes scam.
Mr Singh had been granted interim bail by the court earlier on medical grounds. Special judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal reserved for tomorrow her order on his regular bail.
The former Samajwadi Party leader had filed an application before the court on Monday seeking permission to go out of India for medical treatment.
The judge had accepted the application.
Mr Singh had been shifted from Tihar Jail to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after his health deteriorated.
Arguing for the MP's bail, his counsel Mr Hariharan said that as per the medical report received from AIIMS, his client was still not well and his vital parameters were above the normal limit.
"I (Amar Singh) have amply demonstrated before the court that I am a sick and infirm person and the court could grant me bail on this ground alone," he said.
The 55-year-old leader, who is a diabetic, underwent a renal transplant in September 2009 and intestinal surgery 10 years ago. Besides, he also suffers from hypertension, tuberculosis infection, chronic kidney disease and urinary tract infection.
He was arrested September 6 for his alleged involvement in an attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 parliament trust vote.
On July 22, 2008, three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
