Cash-for-votes: Will Sudheendra Kulkarni get bail?

Cash-for-votes: Will Sudheendra Kulkarni get bail?
New Delhi: In the cash-for-votes scam case, the bail plea of Advani's former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni is underway. Kulkarni claims he has done nothing wrong and has acted as a ''whistle-blower'' to expose the Congress's intentions of securing a majority.

Kulkarni's lawyer Mahipal Singh has argued before the court that there was no evidence that his client solicited anything in lieu of information. He added that not only was there no case under the Prevention of Corruption Act but that there was positive information in court that it was a sting operation.

The police however say he was the mastermind of the scam and have charged him with inducing the three BJP MPs to take money from former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh to abstain from the trust vote in 2008.

Kulkarni's arrest comes after the arrest of former Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh and two BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagora. These two are no longer MPs and are currently in jail.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has given a go-ahead to the police to prosecute the other accused sitting BJP MP Ashok Argal.

The Delhi police on Friday filed its second chargesheet in the case, as the four-week deadline given by the Supreme Court to track the source of the money ended.
