Jaipur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested former Rajasthan minister Babulal Nagar, who is accused of raping and assaulting 35-year-old woman.
"The ex-minister of Rajasthan has been arrested under Section 323 and 376 (in an alleged rape case) after around six hours of examination. He is being taken for medical examination and will be produced in court tomorrow," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said.
The CBI officials probing the case recorded Mr Nagar's statement at the Circuit House in Jaipur after he was summoned for interrogation earlier in the day.
The woman, in her report to the police, has alleged that the 53-year-old leader had raped and assaulted her at his official bungalow on September 11 after taking her there on the pretext of giving her a job.
The CBI on October 9 took over the probe from the Rajasthan Police which had registered the case against Mr Nagar, following which he resigned as the Minister of Dairy, Khadi and Rural Industries.
Earlier, the CBI team had conducted forensic examination of the official residence of Nagar, where he had allegedly raped the woman.
The CBI team had also recorded the statement of the victim at her residence.
Nagar, who tendered his resignation as minister, was suspended from Congress by the party high command last month.
