New Delhi:

CBI on Tuesday conveyed to Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's name does not figure in any of the chargesheets filed in the 2006 sex scandal, an allegation on which he chose to resign.

Highly-placed sources said the agency has officially clarified to the Assembly that it had filed nine chargesheets in the case involving 17 persons. The name of Omar Abdullah is not there, they said.

"CBI has sent its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs and to the Speaker in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. It is for them to issue further information or clarification in this regard since Parliament is in session," a CBI spokesman said.

The sources said Omar's name never figured in the 2006 sex scandal case in which two ministers of the then PDP government were arrested.

While the list of accused questioned by CBI had 37 names, PDP leader Muzzafar Hussain Baig on Tuesday claimed in the state assembly that Omar's name was at serial number 102.

A senior CBI official, who probed the entire scandal on directions of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, said a list had been prepared and circulated in 2006 by people having vested interest possibly to target political opponents.

The CBI had arrested G A Mir and Raman Mattoo, both ministers in the then PDP-Congress Government, besides Iqbal Khandey, former Principal Secretary to the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
