New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recorded the statement of Army Chief General VK Singh, on his allegation that a retired officer, Lieutenant General  Tejinder Singh, tried to bribe him in 2010. Reports suggest that the Army chief will be made a complainant in the case and not a witness. General Singh had wanted to be witness in the case.

A team of senior officials was his South Block office to understand the details of the alleged bribe offer made to him and the supporting evidence that he can furnish.  The General is answering a questionnaire sent to him in advance by the investigating team.

CBI sources had told NDTV last week that an FIR will be filed only if sufficient prima-facie  evidence is found. The loophole that could work against General Singh is that he made his allegation only this year.

General VK Singh has provided the CBI with written details of the 14-crore kickback that he claims he was offered two years ago, only months after he had taken over as Army Chief, to clear the purchase of what he called "sub-standard" trucks.

The CBI was assigned to the case after General Singh said in a newspaper interview last month that he had been offered a bribe.
