CBI Registers 2 Corruption Cases Against Former Noida Chief Engineer

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered two cases of corruption against former chief engineer of Noida authority, Yadav Singh.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today has registered two cases of corruption, and carried out raids at 14 places including Noida, Ghaziabad and Lucknow, linked to former chief engineer of Noida authority, Yadav Singh, accused of corruption and amassing huge wealth disproportionate to his income, according to sources.

Mr Singh is a former Chief Engineer NOIDA, Greater NOIDA and Yamuna Expressway. On July 16, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had ordered a CBI probe into charges of corruption and irregularities against him.

CBI sources say that the first case has been registered under criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mr Yadav, his wife Kusum Lata, daughter Garima Bhushan, son Sunny Yadav and one more person for amassing disproportionate assets.

"The scrutiny of Income Tax Returns and other connecting records have allegedly revealed that during the period 2009-2014, the total likely savings of the family of then Chief Engineer was Rs.1.70 crore(approximately) whereas they were in possession of immovable property worth Rs.3.60 crore(approximately)," said a CBI official.

According to sources, during the searches by Income Tax officials in November last year, several incriminating documents were allegedly recovered from the premises of Mr Singh.

The official said, "Besides, an amount of Rs 10 crores (approximately) was allegedly recovered from one of his associates, which also reportedly belonged to then Chief Engineer."

The Uttar Pradesh government had suspended Mr Singh after an income tax raid had unearthed crores of Rupees in cash and jewellery at his residence last year.
