CBI will investigate YSR's crash

Hyderabad: The CBI is going to investigate the helicopter crash which killed Andhra Chief Minister YSR Reddy, and four others.

The CBI inquiry was requested by K Rosaiah, the new Andhra chief minister, who was sworn in last week.  Home Minister P Chidambaram has agreed to his request.

YSR, 2 pilots, a security officer, and a senior bureaucrat were flying  to Chittoor last week, when air traffic control lost contact with the chopper. After a 24-hour search by land, air and water, the helicopter was discovered on a hilltop, where it had crashed, apparently because of bad weather.  There were no survivors.

A 2-member expert committee is also going to investigate the crash.

One of the main issues that will be examined is why the pilot chose to deviate eastwards from his flight plan towards the dense forests of the Nallamalla range in Kurnool district.

The black box for the helicopter was found on Saturday and is being examined by experts in Delhi.
