New Delhi:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notice to Sacred Heart Convent School in Chandigarh, asking it to explain why Ruchika Girotra, who was molested by former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore and later committed suicide, was expelled from the institution.
The Board has given a 30 day time period to the school authorities to reply to its notice which was issued two days ago, a top Ministry official said on Thursday.
The Sacred Heart Convent in Chandigarh's Sector 26 area had expelled Ruchika for allegedly not paying the school fees 19 years ago. Ruchika was molested by Rathore and was allegedly driven to suicide due to harassment by the former IPS officer who also managed to reportedly get the school to expel her.
A magisterial inquiry had earlier indicted the school for "wrongfully expelling" Ruchika.
The inquiry by the sub-divisional magistrate Prerna Puri had said non-payment of fees in time was not a satisfactory reason for her expulsion. It suggested action against the school and its Principal Sister Sebastina for expelling her allegedly under pressure from Rathore.
Out of 135 students, who had not paid the fees, Ruchika was the only student to be expelled.
