CCTV Footage Of Kanpur Woman At Gym On Day Trainer Murdered Her

A businessman's wife, who was murdered allegedly by her gym trainer, is seen in CCTV footage from a gym in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on the day she was murdered.

In the CCTV footage, Ekta Gupta can be seen walking inside the gym, in a red t-shirt and black pants. That could be the last time she was seen in public, police say. Her body was retrieved on Saturday near the Kanpur District Magistrate's bungalow, four months after she was allegedly murdered.

Gym trainer Vimal Soni allegedly confessed during questioning by the police that he had buried the body of the businessman's wife in an area which comprises bungalows allotted to government officials. Ekta Gupta had been missing since June 24, according to her husband Rahul Gupta.

NDTV learned that the body was found in a part of the District Magistrate's residence that has a camp office. The bureaucrat and his family live in the other part of the bungalow. A security post is also located next to the spot.

The gym where Vimal Soni worked and where Ekta Gupta was a member was situated a kilometre away from the spot where the body was found. She had been a member of the gym for two-and-a-half years.

Senior police officer Shravan Kumar Singh told reporters that Ekta Gupta had an affair with the gym trainer and was upset that he was getting married.

On the day she was allegedly killed, she had come to the gym after 20 days and the two had gone to a car to have a private conversation. An argument ensued, during which he allegedly punched her in the neck, following which she fainted. He then allegedly murdered her.
