Ceasefire Violation: India Vows to Respond to Pakistani Firing
Ceasefire violations by Pakistan have been on the rise in the past one month.
Visakhapatnam: The Indian Army will respond to ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said today.

Mr Jaitley condemned the Friday night incident in which Pakistani troops targeted 22 Border Security Force (BSF) posts and several villages in Jammu and Kashmir, killing at least two civilians and injuring five others.

The defence minister said that although ceasefire violations by Pakistan are increasing, guarding of the Line of Control and the international border by the BSF and the Army is effectively working in countering those acts. "Our army is prepared to respond to each violation. The country has full faith that they (army) are effectively protecting both the territory and the national interest," he said.

"The loss of civilian lives is considered condemnable even in war. During peace, it is even more condemnable."

Mr Jaitely was speaking after commissioning the country's first indigenous stealth anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta into the Indian Navy.

He added that the Army and the defence ministry are collecting information on the latest violation of the 2003 ceasefire agreement. "We will give our detailed reaction later," he said.
