Central team reaches West Bengal

Kolkata: The Central team will be meeting state officials at Writers Buildings in Kolkata on Tuesday. The Centre on Monday rushed a three-member Central team to West Bengal to review the law and order situation.

Left parties together with the BJP, Samajwadi Party and BSP strongly opposed the move. The Trinamul Congress had apparently persuaded Chidambaram to send a Central team.

Its Members of Parliament also demanded imposition of President's Rule in West Bengal. Chidambaram though made it clear in both Houses that there was no need to see the visit of the team as a precursor to President's rule. The move was entirely non-confrontational and he is in constant touch with the chief minister.
