Central team sent to Pune, says Azad

Pune:

Is the government stepping up a gear on H1N1? What's the report card? Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad spoke to NDTV on the pandemic that has caused four deaths in the country till now.

The Health Minister said that around 47 lakh people have so far been screened for the H1N1 virus.

He further talked about the measures taken to prevent any worsening in the situation.

"We have sent a Central team to Pune," said Azad, adding that he would review the swine flu situation in next two to four days.

The Health Minister also talked about the participation of private hospitals in the fight against the globally spread virus.

"States must talk to private hospitals for more swine flu wards," he said.

Azad further said the sale of Tamiflu in private outlets might be allowed if the situation demands. However, he said that doctors should not treat swine flu suspects with the medicine.

Referring to the spread of the H1N1 virus among children in schools, he said that shutting down the institutions was no solution.
